Wow! I have heard the pros are having lots of trouble adapting to the new grooves. I went to try some irons today and the 2010 Mizuno MP 68's were my favorites so far, but they have the new conforming grooves. WE as amateurs aren't required to play these under the rules but how many club makers are ONLY producing the new grooves????

Manufactures will change all their clubs to the new groove rule. I think it is stupid to change equipment for the majority of the golfing public in response to a problem with tour professionals who don't even hit the same clubs we do anyway. How often do you see joe golfer suck one back out of the fairway much less the rough.

It's my understanding that the manufactures are doing just that. I think the 2009 models are going to be bringing a premium price.

IMO as amateurs we won't notice a big difference. Probably a little more roll out than before. The Pro's who have never played V grooves will probably have a hard time adapting, but I'm sure they are good enough to figure it out.

It looks like many clubs want to run with the "big boys" and will instute the new groove rule this year. I expect a lot of arguing over this.

All in all I think its a lot to do about little.

On a side note. I have a old set of 78 Wilson Staff Tour blades I play. It seems I get more check out of my 50* Wilson wedge around the green(s) than I do out of my 52* Edilon. I know it sounds crazy, but that how it seems. One thing that is really different is if the V grooves aren't cleaned out the next shot will roll forever.

1, It only affects the tour next year.

2, For USGA events, they are still looking at it.

3, For the general population it is not until 2022 that it will go into affect.

This came from a USGA guy at the seminar

Why the panic by people who it is not going to affect. I hear this everyday, " I have to get new irons now" sure, if your a tour player. Laughable stuff.

I did see a demo at Taylor Made at a Teaching Seminar a couple of weeks ago though. TM has a new wedge out with a changeable face, like the weights, with a wrench you can put in a new faceplate. That way Pros can keep the faces fresh with a the same wedge they are used to.

From a Bermuda rough the old grooves spin around 10,000, with the new grooves it was under 3,000. That is significant, but off the tight grass it was only about 1,000 difference. They will adjust, but that was an eye opener and they did it several times. The ball on an 80 yd S/W ran about 3 times what the old grooves ran.

Where the "panic" comes in is if you're in the market for new irons as I am. I don't want the new grooves, but if all the manufactures are making their 2010 irons conform.... I don't want them. I think they have made a wrong decision making clubs that only tour players need to conform. The 2010 Mizuno MP68's have the new grooves for example.

I do not think that is true about the new grooves, according to the word the new grooves will be for the tour and can be had by those who think they are good.

The fact is 2022 is a long way off and the mfgrs would be stupid to only mfgr. the new grooves, although in thinking about it, they are not that smart at times.

The next fact is that hardly anyone would tell the difference anyway. A panic is really silly, and besides that, you can save money by not buying a new set.

The USGA will require the new grooves in the US Open, the US Women's Open and the Senior Open, plus the final qualifying stage for each of those tournaments. The other USGA events won't require the new grooves until 2014.

Correct, which one you planning on playing in? just kidding :O)

The PGA of America has not even made a decision on inter PGA Pro/section events, unless of course you are going to play in a USGA major or a tour event.
