Over the years it has definitely gone down. Seems like it began with the release of Kessler, or with the start of the Big Break shows. They "went along with the crowd" (trying to copy other "reality shows") and "dumbed down" their programming.

We used to be able to watch interviews with past greats and they had some pretty good shows with top teaching professionals.

They have spread themselves thin with their coverage of the PGA Tour, although they do a good job with their coverage.

Well it just goes to show you how two people watching the same thing can reach different conclusions. Not to try to start another Kessler thread... but I believe the channel got better on his exit.

Hello DowSomething

I agree that there are some aspects of the GC that are less desirable than others but the channel change button can avoid those things that don't appeal to you but where else can you find the ability to watch a good tour event and not travel there in person. I have been to quite a few events and going to them is a rare treat, but you miss a lot of the interesting golf by walking along with a group or two, or sitting by a few holes for the same reason.

I haven't been as concerned by the personalites as many on this site have mentioned, but I did enjoy Dave Pelz and his short game information because that is the area that most of us haven't learned well from a teacher and practicing without good feedback causes inclusion of bad habits into our game. If you like a game of self-taught performance, the act of repeting poor technique causes that to be fixed into your game. I do miss those filmed portions of GC but I can think of a lot worse TV programming coming from my TV set.

The golf channel certainly does not do a very good job in the teaching department. Playing lessons with the pros is decent sometimes but I don't think most people are going to learn much from it. What happened to the half-hour shows with all the teachers? There used to be all the top teachers with half-hour or hour segments teaching the golf swing. What happened to all the interview shows where pros came on and talked about their careers? I just think they have taken the worng path.

My guess is that most of the top teachers have realized there are too many opportunities to make more money by selling instruction DVD's, books, schools, gadegets or whatever. I'm assuming they don't want to give it away for free. You rarely see any of the "top" guys offering more than a tip here or there.

Those shows seemed to disappear when Kessler left.

Is it the audience or the producer...I have watched the GC from inception and the qualit has been going south every year...they depend on live golf more and more and the production value of programing is waaaaaaaaaaaay down...but the CPA's are running the show and if they are making more $$ every year it does not matter what is quality and what is schlock...money rules...

It's about money okay, they're not in it to lose money. How else can you explain the continued employment of Kelly Tighlman and Slow Lerner? You get what you pay for and I don't think we'll see much improvement. Money is the reason they show little of the LPGA, no one cares to watch it and it's a loser. Money is the reason for all of the Tiger hype, he is the one golfer that moves the needle for the non golfer or occassional golfer. I don't know what the costs of producing Big Break is, but the reason you see all of those "Top Ten" shows is that the cost to put them together is almost zero...they just pull stuff from the clip files....and then rerun them one or two thousand times.

It's a business, for all of you LPGA fans, it's not a charity. And, its the only game in town...the only way TGC improves is if they get some competition. It's lousy, draws the worst level of talent, has no incentive to improve ..... sort of like what Obamacare would be like.

Not to take this off topic, but about Obamacare, when someone asked Pelosi where in the Constitution it allowed our government to force folks to purchase health insurance, she about took his head off. Excuse me, but I thought it was reasonable question.
