I see a lot of ads for SkyCaddie. If you have one, would you recommend it? I currently use a laser pin seeker.

Stay with a rangefinder. You can take it anywhere and don't have to pay for downloads

you dont have to pay for downloads. You pay a yearly fee between 29-59$ a year. I use a skycaddie. I caddy on the pga tour. I also use a rangefinder. But the laser link stinks.

I know it is boring ( and really that is what you are doing by asking question), but do your research.

I owned a Sky Caddie, two of them in fact, both were dismal failures with regard to their build, both had hardware failure. The first one was within the warranty period (died after 14 days). The second one also died, within the warranty period, but I was out of the country and could not pursue a remedy.

My advice based on my trouble with Sky Caddie's customer service and product would be to stay away.

(Since the first had died within two weeks and I had excitely paid for the extended warranty and forked over for the subscription, you would think it simple to transfer that paid account to the new Sky Caddie. Each time I called I was told that the problem is easy to solve. All the account needed was have the serial number on first transferred to the account for the second. Never happened.)

I work at a course P/T and from what i have noticed these things are a waste of money and a waste of time, they slow down the course big time if the user doenst know how to use the device,

I have owned one for 4 years. Had trouble with the first unit I had, Skycaddie replaced it quickly and with no hassle. Replaced the battery a couple of years ago. Other than that, I have had no problems with it. You do have to pay an annual subscription, $35.00 or so.

Get a Smartphone and use GPS software......a LOT CHEAPER.

$29 a YEAR or like $80 for a lifetime.

I have a skycaddy and I like it. I have never had a rangefinder so I ca't compare. My sky caddy is an early model that gives distance to front, middle, and back. It also gives distance to various hazards. I like just being able to pull it out of my pocket and look at it. It makes it easy to shoot at the front edge or near the back edge of the green.

I've had my SG5 for two years and use it every week. It's wonderful.

I tried three laser products before buying the GPS.

But, you will find advocates for both types of products.

Laser is more precise, skycaddie much easier to use.
