Remember New Zealand and Tiger?

What Turner speaks of is the presidential-like cavalcade to and from the course for Woods, blocking off the road into the Paraparaumu course, with other players having to abandon their courtesy cars and walk the rest of the way to the course if their arrival coincided with that of Woods. An army helicopter hovered overhead, a huge police presence was on the ground, including those plain-clothed types with ear-pieces and large canvas bags containing automatic weapons strung over their shoulders. I suggested to one of the heavies it was a great assignment to watch Woods - ''I hate golf, I'd rather have root canal surgery,'' he snarled back.

''There was absolute paranoia,'' Turner said ''They grabbed some poor b@stard out shooting rabbits in his paddock 10 miles away, the same as he'd done for the past 30 years. It was pretty extraordinary

Here's another view, and an interesting look at how the negotiations for Tiger's appearance took place.

Very interesting. Either, the Australian authorities are crazy, or Tiger was/is considered a most valuable asset to that organization. Evidently, they were banking on his presence to bring alot more in returns (financially, prestige, recognition, etc.).

It appears Aussies are doing the right thing by not milk it all they can by capping the ticket price at $44 and looking at a long-term investment, while Kiwi's are milking it all they can "now" with expensive ticket prices and not looking ahead.
