TV ratings for AT&T National triple from last year

By Associated Press

AT&T NationalBETHESDA, Md. – Tiger Woods’ win at the AT&T National drew an overnight rating more than three times higher than last year, when he was injured.

CBS said on Monday that Sunday’s final round of the tournament Woods hosts earned a 4.6 rating and 11 share, up from the 1.5/3 a year ago.

It was the highest rating for a non-major on CBS since the Buick Invitational in January 2008, which Woods also won.

Ratings represent the percentage of all households with televisions tuned into a program, and shares represent the percentage of all homes with TVs in use at the time. Overnight ratings measure the nation’s largest markets.

“The viewers know that Tiger is always going to do his best to be prepared (even if he is the host) and try to contend. Everytime - without exception (at home or abroad). Even if he does not win, he is going to grind it out. Better yet, in the 12 full years since he turned professional, he has missed the cut 5 times - so there is a strong guarantee that he will be playing on the weekend. If I were Tiger, I would not be so quick to change the date of the event since it has a theme and vision, with proceeds (after expenses) all for charity. Changing the date to get a few more Euro players (who might not even play with a change of date) is not the way to go. Here's for keeping the tournament over the July 4th holiday.”
